Intel joins Musk's Terafab as manufacturing partner; Musk later says Terafab will use Intel's 14A process, Intel's first big external 14A customer

★★★hardware-computeIntelTeslaSpaceXxAIconfidence: high

On April 7, 2026 Intel said it would join Terafab, the Tesla–SpaceX–xAI chip-fab project, as a manufacturing and process-technology partner (not an equity owner). On Tesla's Q1 2026 earnings call (April 22), Musk said Terafab plans to use Intel's 14A process, which Reuters called Intel's first significant external customer win for 14A.

Key facts

What happened

Weeks after Musk launched Terafab, Intel signed on to supply process technology and manufacturing know-how, and Musk then named Intel's unfinished 14A node as the process for the full-scale fab.

Why it matters

For Intel's foundry business it was a much-needed external anchor customer for 14A; for Terafab it was the first sign of a credible process partner. The partnership's later stall and the TSMC talks show how fragile it was.
